I was on-set again for filming the second season of Jolie East-Miji’s “B-City” Webseries. My on-set role this season: Key Production Assistant. Off-set role: an executive producer. I observed activity for a scene featuring characters Bre and Brandon: lighting, blocking, rehearsal, and the actual filming.
Blocking a scene is simply “working out the details of an actor’s moves in relation to the camera.” – The 5 Stages of Blocking a Scene
I assisted setting up the room by covering the windows, as the scene is at night but filming was done during the day. I also helped with the lighting, holding a diffuser in front of a light source. The diffuser I used is a translucent fabric designed to break up and evenly distribute the light from the source.
Here is a video showing blocking/rehearsal of the scene. There is plastic on the couch and adjacent chair, leading to some funny sounds. There are also some behind-the-scenes photos. All media from the author.
I will continue to document the production phase of “B-City” in subsequent posts.
Please provide your thoughts and questions in the comments. I would really enjoy hearing from you. If you have a topic in mind you would like me to cover, please let me know.
