She is the creator of the award-winning film “The Garden of Edette” and graduate of the American Film Institute (AFI) Conservatory. Synopsis of “The Garden of Edette”: A Creole Southern Gothic Film: A lonely Creole woman’s life is bound to her flesh-eating garden. Here is Guinevere Thomas’ BIO, from Guinevere Thomas:
Guinevere Thomas is a writer/director from Austin, Texas, who received her MFA in Directing from the American Film Institute. During her time there, her feature, INHERITANCE, was a semi-finalist in The LAUNCH Million Dollar Student Screenplay Contest hosted by Coverfly. In addition to AFI, Guinevere interned at Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions and Ava DuVernay’s ARRAY. She now works for writer/producer C. Robert-Cargill, who remains her mentor. Raised in Texas to Louisiana Creole parents, Guinevere has always allowed her cultural roots to guide her work. Her films explore growing pains, family, and the southern Black American experience through a genre lens. Guinevere’s most recent film, THE GARDEN OF EDETTE, won the Audience Award at The Black Filmmaker Rebellion Festival, sponsored by Film Independent and The Golden Globes Foundation; the Best Short Film award at the DC Black Film Festival; and Best Production at the Black Film Festival of New Orleans.
