Q&A

I sent Tiara a list of questions and I received her response on June 4, 2017.

Alan: When did you feel you had to be a part of the entertainment industry?

Tiara: Been pursuing the arts since I was 13 years old. I started officially working in the industry since I turned 18.

A: How did you break into the industry; what was your first position in the industry?

T: I was a writer when I first start working in the industry. I wrote articles, interviewed celebrities.

A: What convinced you to move to L.A.?

T: I really had no choice. But I spent summer 2003 in Los Angeles. I tried to get a feel for the industry, the city and what I would be up against. It was really eye opening. I didn’t move until 2006 after Hurricane Katrina. I had an opportunity to audition for a television pilot produced by Dayo Beverly. I didn’t get the role but I knew that Los Angeles was for me.

A: Tell our readers why you decided to start The Reel Network.

T: I was working in the industry but there was something missing in terms of opportunity for black people… so I created the business for balance.

A: Has the mission of The Reel Network changed over the years?

T: No, the mission hasn’t changed but we have definitely gotten more creative about ways to serve our audience.

A: Describe the components making up The Reel Network (either actualized or planned).

T: TV network, university, production and guidance for actors.

A: What platforms (e.g., new media, film) are you using to get your message out?

T: The web, TV pilots, films, commercials, etc.

A: Describe your relationship with Dr. Boyce Watkins and how he has influenced you.

T: I love Boyce. He’s a big brother, business partner, mentor and one of my best friends. He’s help me understand how to take an idea and make it a business. He’s helped me become a better businesswoman and extended his platform in many ways to me.

A: Describe Tiara the entrepreneur. What keeps you going?

T: I can’t quit. We are 5 years in. I have to see it through. I get up every day and just work towards the goals that I set. There’s no plan B.

A: What are you doing to keep your name out there?

T: I’m active every day. I believe in the power of network and outreach.

A: What is next for Tiara?

T: The Reel Network is next for Tiara… lol. Always.

A: What do you want to tell our readers?

T: Come join our movement!

A: How can people get in touch with you?
